Anne Prince
Anne has more than 30 years’ experience in waste management at local, regional, state and international levels in Australia, Europe and Asia. Anne has been employed in local government, industry, commercial and the community sectors and is widely recognised for pioneering and implementing innovative waste minimisation programs throughout Australia. Her background is complemented by practical hands-on experience in all facets of waste and recycling and she is hailed as the “mother of recycling” having been responsible for pioneering the introduction of kerbside recycling between 1990–1993.
Since 1997 Anne has overseen the delivery of more than 800 projects for 300 plus clients and has positioned APC to be Australia’s preeminent waste audit and data collection compony as voted by Inside waste readers in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
From 2002 to July 2009 Anne was the inaugural part-time Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Council of Recyclers (ACOR) and was a member of the Board of Zero Waste South Australia 2009 – 2011.
In 2010 Anne was voted by her peers and colleagues as the industry leader in the Resources and Waste category of the Waste Management and Environment Media Leaders List. In response to this award Anne has turned passion to purpose founding Waste Aid, a non for profit charity seeking to improve waste services in disadvantaged and indigenous communities nationally. Anne was the founder and inaugural voluntary CEO from 2014 – 2016. Waste Aid merged with Community Resources in 2018.
In 2017 Anne lead a multi-donor partner coordination, research and technical assistance project to investigate opportunities to establish a recycling network to improve economic outcomes and reduce health and environmental risks by 15 materials in 15 Pacific island nations. Her packaging background contributed to working with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in partnership with 11 largest global packaging companies to develop and pilot an assessment framework to measure postconsumer plastic packaging leakage into the environment in India, Indonesia and Philippines.
In 2018 to capture more international opportunities Anne started a subsidiary Asia Pacific Waste Consultants (APWC) to deliver projects and programs that make a real contribution to reducing ocean plastics through collecting data to inform policies, infrastructure, education and engagement.
